Texas A&M – Corpus Christi volleyball player Logen Bourque was recognized this past week with a Second Team All-Academic honor by the Southland Conference. Bourque is the first Islanders volleyball player to earn all-academic honors since Beth Fionda did so in 2008.
"We're very proud or Logen and appreciate her commitment to achieving high academic standards," said Islanders head coach Tony Graystone. "She is setting a great example for the rest of our team."
The sophomore setter from Clear Lake High School currently holds a 3.81 GPA in kinesiology while breaking several Islanders records during the course of her second season. She finished sixth in the Southland Conference with a total of 1,171 assists, breaking both the single-season and career marks for assists by an Islanders player. For her career, the Houston native has amassed 2,135 assists during her two years.
The all-academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance administrators from each Southland Conference university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.
