Texas A&M-Corpus Christi cross country recently hosted its
second annual alumni weekend for both past and present Islanders.
Head coach Shawn Flanagan took time to catch up and tell stories
about the program while reconnecting again.
Taking part were 27 former student-athletes and eight current
members of the team.
Among the group were four original members of the Islanders
program with Rachel Hudson, Alamar Cavada, Pete Bellman and J.J.
Garza.
Other notable alumni who attended were former national champion
Shadrack Songok, current Islanders assistant J.R. Pulido, Keith
Gordan, Chris Garza, Greg Freeman, Andrew Fogle, Jennifer Miller
(Reasner) and Lazrik Pettis.
Coach Flanagan and those who attended took a two-mile run on the
beach which was followed up with a cookout. Stories about how the
program has evolved from the beginning to current form were
exchanged with the athletes talking about the pride they continue
to have in being a member of the Islanders.
"As we have been around for 10 years now it was time we
celebrated our accomplishments and good times," said Flanagan. "It
was fantastic to see all the Alumni back for this."
