A transfer from the University of Arizona and a two-time
all-city guard out of Chicago have been added to the roster for the
upcoming 2010-11 men's basketball season according to Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi head coach Perry Clark.
"I think that we are very fortunate to bring in a pair of
players that are the caliber of player that these two are," said
Clark. "It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of my
staff that we were able to find these two players."
Garland Judkins, a 6-3 guard, comes to the Islanders from the
University of Arizona after two seasons. After playing in 18 games
with four starts as a freshman, Judkins, who will be a junior,
appeared in six games before electing to transfer closer to home
for personal reasons last January. In the 24 games he played with
the Wildcats, Judkins had a career-high 12 points against
Mississippi Valley State. He averaged 2.4 points a game as a
freshman.
Judkins prepped at Christian Life Center Academy in Humble where
he helped the team to a 38-6 record as a senior. He was a
McDonald's All-American nominee entering his senior season.
"Whenever you have the ability to bring in a player that has
been coached by someone like Lute Olsen you have to feel very
fortunate," said Clark. "Garland adds maturity and mental
toughness. Physically, he adds speed, quickness and ball-handling
to the backcourt."
Hollis Hill - one of the top scorers in the Chicago Public
League - also joins the Islanders this fall. Hill averaged 20.2
points a game as a senior for the Chicago Vocational School to go
with five rebounds and four assists. He averaged just under 20
points a game as a junior and 16 as a sophomore. The Cavaliers won
64 games in Hill's three seasons. Hill graduated as the
second-leading scorer in Chicago Vocational history with 1,604
points trailing only Juwan Howard.
A three-time all-conference choice in the Red-South Conference,
Hill was second-team all-city in 2009 and 2010, and was named to
the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-State team his
final two seasons. He was a third-team selection in '09 and
honorable mention as a senior. He participated in the Chicago
Public League's North vs. South All-Star game and represented the
city team in the Nike Foundation for Student-Athletes City vs.
Suburban All-Star Game. Hill was named MVP of the latter with a
22-point, 7-assist performance.
"Hollis comes from a program with a storied history and is the
second-leading scorer in the program's history," explained Clark.
"More importantly, he comes here with a reputation as a hard-nosed
competitor. He adds ball-handling skills, outside shooting and
perimeter defense."
The duo joins incoming Islanders Chris Mast, Jaamon Echols, Ted
Wang and Darren Warren.
