After spending the past two weeks preparing for camp, the Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi spirit squads head to Texas State this
weekend to attend UCA cheer camp and UDA dance camp in San
Marcos.
Under the direction of Melanie Lowry and Brittany Smalley, the
teams have been developing routines the past two weeks to ready
themselves. Last season, the dance team qualified for UDA Nationals
at the meet, while the cheer team will look to improve on its three
top honor selections.
"The dancers have been practicing on their routine to qualify
for nationals all summer long and it is the hardest one to date,"
said Lowry. "The cheerleading squad has also set high this year. We
have gone from an all-girl squad to a co-ed squad which should
really help. The talent level is higher this year prior seasons.
The team is hoping to once again dominate in their division at
camp."
