Showing off the form that made him one of the top scorers in the
Southland Conference and in Islander history, former Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi guard Kevin Palmer made his NBA Summer
League debut Monday night netting 10 points off the bench for the
Washington Wizards. The Wizards won the contest 89-64 over the Los
Angeles Clippers.
"Without a doubt, Kevin is getting an opportunity to prove
himself against some tough competition," said Islander men's
basketball head coach Perry Clark. "Washington showed a lot of
confidence by signing him to play for them this summer. Several
teams in the league showed interest in Kevin. He just felt
Washington would be his best chance to make an NBA team in the long
run."
Palmer, who sat out the team's opening game in Las Vegas with
Golden State, took to the court early in the second period. The
ex-Islander broke into the scoring column at the 4-minute mark
knocking down a 3-point basket from the left wing. A minute later,
Palmer, who scored 1,231 points in two seasons, knocked down a
second three-point basket this time from the right wing.
Palmer added four more points in the final period. Both baskets
came off offensive rebounds. He finished the game 4-of-5 from the
floor with three offensive rebounds.
Washington has three games remaining in the Las Vegas league.
The Wizards next play Dallas on Thursday. The games are available
