Natchitoches, La. - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's
tennis team lost a 6-1 final to the Northwestern State Lady Demons
in a Southland Conference match on Saturday morning. NWLA is
currently in first place of the Southland with an unbeaten league
record.
The Islanders fall to 7-9 on the season and 3-5 in Southland
matches. The Lady Demons improve to 11-1 on the year and a perfect
6-0 in league play. NWLA beat the University of Houston on the
road by an identical 6-1 score earlier in the season.
In the doubles portion of the match, the Islanders were swept by
NWLA as Mirna Cicak and Megan Harless lost at the No. 1 spot 8-1,
Doris Kuselj and Bianca Discordia lost 8-3 at No. 2 doubles and
Nadia Filmalter and LeAnne Mascall fell 8-4 at the No. 3
position.
In singles play, Doris Kuselj kept her conference unbeaten
streak alive as she won 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 over Adna Curukovic at No. 2
singles. Kuselj remains unbeaten in Southland Conference matches
and has only lost once all season. Cicak lost her first Southland
match of the year with a 7-6 (7-1), 7-5 loss to Olga Bazhanova at
the No. 1 position. Discordia lost a 6-4, 6-7 (7-0), 10-4 match to
Martina Rubesova at No. 3 singles and Adrienne Kovas lost 6-1, 6-0
to Kathrin Lange at the No. 4 position. Mascall fell 6-0, 6-0 to
Andrea Nedorostova at No. 5 singles and Filmalter lost to Bianca
Schulz by a 6-3, 6-2 score in the No. 6 spot.
