Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis freshman Doris
Kuselj has been named the Southland Conference Women's Tennis
Player of the Week. Kuselj went undefeated last week, winning four
singles matches and three doubles matches.
Kuselj played No. 2 singles, winning against players from UTEP,
Illinois State, Arkansas State and Central Arkansas in successive
days to stay undefeated on the year. She is now 5-0 this season,
including her season-opening win against Julie Chao of Rice.
In doubles action, Kuselj and teammate Nadia Filmalter won all
three matches played this weekend at the No. 3 position. They beat
the UTEP team on Thursday, Illinois State on Friday and Arkansas
State on Saturday. Doubles were not played on Sunday against
Central Arkansas due to the match being moved indoors for
weather.
Kuslej is originally from Dubronik, Croatia and is one of three
freshmen starting in the top six singles positions for the
Islanders. Sophomore Mirna Cicak at No. 1 singles helps make up
one of the youngest lineups in the country while getting off to a
4-2 start this season.
Kuselj looks to keep her undefeated record intact this week when
they play at Louisiana-Lafayette on Thursday while helping the
Islanders improve their season record.
Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the
week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own
player.
