The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team travels
to Thibodaux, La. this weekend to take on Nicholls in a Southland
Conference game at 2 PM on Saturday. The Islanders will be looking
to extend their winning streak to four games and continue unbeaten
all-time against the Colonels.
TAMUCC is 14-6 on the year and 6-1 in Southland play. The
Colonels are 3-17 on the season and 0-8 in the Southland
Conference. The Islanders hold a 3-0 advantage in the all-time
series after winning last season's game by an 84-57 margin in
Corpus Christi.
They are coming off of a thrilling 72-66 victory over UT
Arlington in which they trailed by as many as 11 points with less
than 10 minutes to go in the contest. The Islanders surged back to
take the lead with just 52 seconds left to improve to 6-1 in
conference play. It was the first time that they had beaten the
Mavericks since joining the Southland Conference before the 2005-06
season and improved the series record to 8-4 all-time in favor of
UTA.
The Colonels come into the game with two of the top four scorers
in the Southland Conference in Ricshanda Bickham and Alisha Allen.
Bickham is averaging 18.2 points per game and is second in the
Southland while Allen is scoring at a 14.7 clip, good for fourth in
the league. Despite the offensive production, the Colonels have
struggled getting into the win column but are a dangerous team that
lost by just six points to East-leading Stephen F. Austin in their
last game. Bickham scored a career-high 33 points in that
contest.
Jade Davis leads the
Islanders in scoring with 14.6 points per game average, including a
team-high 18 points against the Mavericks this past Wednesday
night. Adrienne Scott is second on
the team and the only other Islander averaging double-digits at
11.9 points per game. Elisa Beagle leads the team
in rebounding by averaging 8.3 per game.
Yannis Koutroupis will call the game for the Islanders on ESPN
1230 AM KSIX. Fans unable to listen can visit the Nicholls website
