After going over a
month without a home game, the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi
women's basketball team will finally play in front of a friendly
crowd when they host the St. Edward's Hilltoppers on Thursday night
at the Dugan Wellness Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and will
feature the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosting its annual
Toys for Tots gift drive.
The Islanders come into
the contest with a record of 0-7 on the year with the most recent
loss coming by a 72-62 margin to the Houston Cougars. SEU comes into the game with a record
of 6-4 on the season, having won its last game by a 75-62 final
over Huston-Tillotson.
Adrienne Scott broke
through with her first double-double of the season against the
Cougars in just her third game back from injury. The team also had Lauren Smith,
Ashley Darley and Anitra Jeffery scoring in double digits as the
Islanders played their best game of the young season against the
5-1 Cougars.
Smith is leading Texas
A&M - Corpus Christi in scoring at 12.8 points per game,
followed by Jeffery at 8.9 ppg and Scott with an 8.7 ppg
average. Jeffery leads the
team in rebounding with 9.4 board a game, followed by Scott at 6.7
per game in her three games back.
The Hilltoppers are led
in scoring by Haley Tidwell at 12.3 points per game. Brittany Ward is second at 8.5 ppg
while Sarah Milewski leads the team with 5.4 rebounds per
game. SEU is 5-1 at home,
but just 1-3 on the road as they travel to Corpus Christi on
Thursday night.
In addition to the
game, the SAAC will be hosting its Toys for Tots gift drive to help
less fortunate children.
Fans bringing a new, unwrapped toy will get into the game for a
special discounted rate of $3 per ticket. In addition to the gift drive, the
SAAC will also be giving away gift cards to a few lucky
winners. Every fan
entering the game will be entered to win either a $75 gift card
from HEB, a $25 gift card from Starbucks or a $25 gift card from
Cheddar's. Winners will be
announced at halftime along with a presentation of the gifts to the
Marines, the originator of the Toys for Tots program.
