STATS
The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team returns
to action on Wednesday, Nov. 17, for a road contest at Oklahoma
State. This will mark the first road game of the season for the
Islanders, who enter the contest 1-1 on the year.
The Islanders are coming off an 86-65 loss to Texas A&M on
Monday night, played in front of a crowd of 6,071 - the second
highest attendance in school history. The Aggies got out to a
20-point lead late in the first half and were able to maintain that
advantage throughout the second half, despite a tremendous game
from senior forward Demond
Watt. The Chicago native scored 21 points and had a career-high
16 rebounds, while sophomore Terence
Jones had a career-high 16 points in the loss.
Oklahoma State is 1-0 on the season, having played Houston
Baptist in their only regular-season contest thus far. The Cowboys
toppled the Huskies by a score of 89-73, as Marshall Moses led the
way with 17 points and seven boards.
THE LAST TIME
Oklahoma State and Texas A&M - Corpus Christi have met six
times in the history of the programs, with the Cowboys emerging
victorious on all six occasions. Wednesday's contest will be the
fifth between the two teams at Gallagher-Iba Arena to go along with
two in Corpus Christi.
The last meeting between the programs came at the American Bank
Center, on Dec. 14, 2008, as the Cowboys took an 82-59 decision
behind 32 points from Obi Munelo. Kevin
Palmer scored 14 points and LaMarr
Drake added 12 for the Islanders. The last time the two teams
met in Stillwater, OSU was on the winning end of a 60-46 decision
as James Anderson scored 22 points for the Cowboys. Justin
Reynolds had a double-double in the loss, netting 11 points and
grabbing 12 rebounds.
AGAINST THE BIG 12
Tuesday's contest will be the second of four games this season
against Big 12 opponents for the Island University. Texas A&M
took the first contest between the conference and Texas A&M -
Corpus Christi, 86-65 on Monday.
In addition to Wednesday's game, the Islanders have road
contests at Kansas (Nov. 23) and at Texas Tech (Jan. 2) later on in
the 2010-11 campaign. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is 3-16 all-time
against foes from the Big 12, including a 1-1 slate against A&M
and a 1-2 mark against Texas Tech. Tuesday's game at Kansas will be
the first meeting between the two schools.
ROOTING INTEREST
Monday night's crowd of 6,071 was the second largest in the
history of Islanders Basketball. Interestingly, the attendance was
more than the two teams drew when they played in College Station in
2003 (4,544). Just as interesting, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi
will now take to the road to play the foe it drew the largest crowd
against, Oklahoma State, which drew 8,431 when it visited on Jan.
3, 2005.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE DEMOND
Senior Demond
Watt has shown throughout his career that he can be one of the
top power forwards in the Southland Conference, but just as
impressive is his propensity for stepping it up in big games. In
one of the biggest games of his career on Monday, Watt showed up in
a big way, with 21 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. It was his
12th career double-double, placing him in a tie for third on the
Islanders' all-time list. It marked the most rebounds by an
Islander player since Corey Lamkin had 18 at Air Force on Jan. 21,
2004.
