Three members
of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's track and
field/cross country teams Anne Ronoh, Meghan Lemke and Ari
Perez were selected to the Capitol One Bank/Southland
Conference All-Academic teams the league announced.
Ronoh boasted a
3.27 grade-point average in nursing and raised her average to 3.45
overall with a 3.46 GPA this spring. This past fall she became the
first Islander women's cross country runner to advance to the NCAA
Cross Country Championship earning Southland Conference Newcomer of
the Year honors. She recorded the Southland Conference's best
finish at NCAA South Central Regional meet with an 11th-place
finish and was the league's lone representative at the NCAA
Championship. Ronoh was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.
She earned All-Southland in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs.
Lemke came into
the semester with a 3.33 GPA and posted a 3.8 this spring to raise
her average to while majoring in management with an emphasis in
human resources. After redshirting this fall in cross country,
Lemke won a conference title indoors in the 3,000-meter run and was
second in the mile. She won an outdoor title in the 1,500-meter
run.
Ari Perez, who
was the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the Islanders, was
recognized on the men's side. The management major from
Corpus Christi had a 3.48 GPA following the fall. He earned All-SLC
honors in the steeplechase after placing third.
The 2009
Southland Conference Cross Country and Track and Field All-Academic
Teams are comprised of student-athletes that competed in cross
country, indoor track and field and/or outdoor track and field.
Student-athletes earn automatic qualification onto the Southland
Conference All-Academic Team if they maintain a GPA of 3.0 in
addition to earning either first-team all-conference honors in any
of the three seasons and/or a CoSIDA Academic All-District VI
Selection.
