A&M-Corpus Christi standout pitcher Trey Hearne returns to
Corpus Christi this weekend as member of the Springfield Cardinals
when they take on the Corpus Christi Hooks in a three-game set at
Whataburger Field.

Hearne, who was
selected by St. Louis in the 28th round of 2005 Major League
Baseball draft, is 3-1 this season in 11 appearances for
Springfield with five starts. He boasts a 3.06 ERA which is seventh
in the Texas League following Thursday's action. The ex-Islander
has struckout 44 batters in 47 innings which is third in the
league.
As a senior for
the Islanders, Hearne was named the Independent Pitcher of the Year
and was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First
Team. He posted an 8-1 record and a 2.00 ERA, which was 18th in the
nation during the regular season. The righthander had four games
with 10 or more strikeouts and tossed three complete games. He
finished his two-year career with 16 wins, 201 strikeouts, and a
2.43 earned run average, which are all school records.
Hearne is one
of three Islanders to chosen in the baseball draft. Chuck Carter
was selected by St. Louis a round ahead of Hearne in 2005. Last
year, Omar Gutierrez was selected in the 29th round by San
Diego.
