Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis player Mikhail Pavlov has been
named the Southland Conference Men's Tennis Player of the
Week. Pavlov recorded an
undefeated week to capture the third such honor for an Islander
player this season.
Pavlov started
the week off against UT Arlington as the Islanders defeated the
Mavericks by a 6-1 score in the SLC match. Pavlov teamed with Dmitry Novikov in
No. 1 doubles to take an 8-1 win over Dmitry Minkin and Mindaugas
Celedinas before winning a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Celedinas at No.
1 singles.
In the
Islanders second match of the week, Pavlov once again went 2-0 as
TAMUCC beat UTSA by a 6-1 match score. In No. 1 doubles, Pavlov and Novikov
downed Andre Moreira and Rodrigo Morgado by an 8-7 (7-4)
final. Pavlov moved on to
No. 1 singles against Morgado, winning in a three-set match by a
6-2, 4-6, 6-3 score.
Pavlov becomes
the third Islander to win the award, as Laurent Montoisy and Jaume
Farras had previously been recognized this season. Pavlov and the Islanders next play
against #13
Texas. The Islanders, now
#50 in the nation, will travel to Austin to take on the Longhorns
in a non-conference match on Thursday at 6:00 PM.
