The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team will
play its final game before the holiday break on Saturday when they
travel to Edinburg to take on the Texas-Pan American
Broncs. Tip-off is set for 5 PM at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
The Islanders come into the game following a win against
Incarnate Word last Sunday in the Dugan Wellness Center. TAMUCC
trailed early but made a strong second half push to win the game by
a 62-51 final and improve to 5-3 on the season. They outscored UIW
39-21 in the second half to secure a tough victory in their
first-ever game in Dugan.
Shaye Montgomery led the
Islanders with 13 points while Elisa Beagle just missed a
double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Jade
Davis scored 11 points to bring her season scoring average to
11.6 points per game. Deziree Green grabbed six
rebounds in the game and leads the team in rebounding with 7.8 per
game.
The Broncs come into the game with a 2-9 record after downing
St. Edward's 68-41 last Sunday. The other win came against Jackson
State, a 49-48 overtime game against an opponent the Islanders have
also faced this season. TAMUCC played JSU in the Lady Eagle
Thanksgiving Classic, taking a 57-44 win over the Tigers.
After the Saturday game, the Islanders are off until a Dec. 28
double header at the American Bank Center. That Monday, the men's
team will play Oklahoma Panhandle State University at 4:30 PM,
followed by the women's team hosting Houston in a 7 PM contest.
