FT. MYERS, FLA. - With just four players able to complete both
rounds, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf team struggled Monday
in its 36 holes at the Pat Bradley Invitational hosted by FIU at
the Pelican Reserve and Country Club.
Playing without senior Ashley Watkins, who teed off at the first
hole but was unable to continue, A&M-Corpus Christi fired
rounds of 310 and 314 to finish the day in 15th with a 624. Furman
was the leader after 36 holes with a 578 (290-288).
Sophomore Ryann White opened the day with a 74 and carded a 77
in round two to post a 151 and is 36th overall. The 74 matched her
second-best round of the fall. Courtney Peeler (75-81) and Cecilia
Jeon (79-77) had matching 156. Chelsey Watkins turned in a 36-hole
score of 161(82-79). Shena Yang of South Florida was the individual
leader with a 136 (68-68) and is 8-under par.
"Courtney and Ryann have to bring the low scores and we need
Cecilia and Chelsey to produce as well," said Islander head coach
Carol Blackmar. "It's hard with only four players. When you have
five players it gives you a little more room for error. With just
four there is more pressure if you struggle to pull it back
together. You don't have that buffer."
The Islanders conclude the tournament and their fall season
tomorrow with 18 holes.
