The Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi softball team recently held a fund raising
dinner with special guest speaker Crystl Bustos, a member of gold
medal winning softball teams at the 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens
Olympics and a silver medal winner at the 2008 Beijing
Olympics.
"Overall the
event was a success." said head coach Jake Schumann. "It gave our team, our community, and
some young softball players a chance to meet and listen to one of
the best softball players in the entire world."
Bustos is a
power-hitting force for Team
USA, leading the squad to dominance in international
competition. In her three
appearances at the Olympic Games, she has collected a total of 14
homeruns and 24 RBIs. She
holds Olympic records in home runs with eight and runs scored with
12 at the 2008 Beijing Games.
Bustos spoke on
the value of hard work and perseverance both on and off the
field.
"Crystl was outstanding in her
presentation and gave us some inspiration going into the new
year." said coach
Schumann. "I look forward
to doing this event every year to kick off the season honoring our
Islander softball players."
