HAMMOND - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis
team dropped a 4-0 decision to Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday
in its final match of the season.
The loss ends the
Islanders season at 4-12 overall and 2-9 in the Southland
Conference season. A&M-Corpus Christi finished the season with
just five healthy players. The win was the 45th in a row for
Southeastern which last lost a league match in 2005. The Lions
finished the regular season with 17 straight wins for a 19-2 mark
and a 10-0 SLC record.
With only five players
available, the Islanders entered the match down 1-0. Southeastern
won matches at the top three singles spots. Emilija Arnaudovska
downed Nina Ciric 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while Iva Velkovska
defeated Alexandra Dyckman 6-3, 6-1. Megan Harless dropped a 6-2,
6-1 at No. 3 singles to Breda Kovac for the final point.
"I'm proud as can be
of the way the girls who chose to remain on the team competed and
stuck together," said Islander head coach Steve Moore. "They
represented this school incredibly well and have a very bright
future. These girls combined with the blue chip recruits we have
coming next year should make this team a contender for the
Southland Conference. I considered it a privilege to coach this
incredible high character group of young ladies this
year."
