A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team pulled out a 4-3 win over
Louisiana-Lafayette for its sixth-straight win.
At No. 1
singles, Laurent Montoisy fell to Piotr Olechowski 6-3, 6-4, while
Mike Pavlov lost 7-6, 6-4 to Piotrek Banas at No. 2 singles.
Dmitry Novikov put the Islanders on the board with a win over
Janusz Conradi after he retired midway through the second
set.
At No. 4
singles, Jaume Farras came from behind to take a 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 win
over Arlen Domoney while Jan Cingel won his match 6-3, 4-6, 6-2
over Jorge Delgado at the No. 5 spot. Jose Zunino, playing at the
No. 6 position cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Stefan
Hawkins.
"I give
Louisiana-Lafayette a lot of credit. They were very well coached
and they competed extremely hard on their home court," head coach
Steve Moore said.
In doubles
play, the tandem of Cingel and Zunino pulled out a 9-8 win over
Hawkins and Delgado to secure the doubles point. Pavlov and
Novikov won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles over Olechowski and
Banas.
The men will
head to Beaumont Wednesday to take on Lamar in a Southland
Conference matchup.
