Texas A&M
University-Corpus Christi men's basketball player William Bullard
has been selected as one of eight NCAA Division I players to
compete in the State Farm College Slam Dunk and Three point
Championships in San Antonio.
Bullard will
compete in the slam dunk portion of the event that will be
nationally televised live on ESPN starting at 6:30 p.m. on Thurs.,
April 3 at St. Mary's University in Bill Greehey Arena.
"It is a real
blessing for me to be in this slam dunk contest," Bullard
said. "To be a guy from a
small school going up against the big boys makes it a real
challenge. It is a chance
to show what kind of athletes are at Texas A&M-Corpus
Christi."
Bullard is one
of only a handful of players from the Southland Conference that
have ever participated in the event. UTSA's Devin Brown was the last SLC
member to represent the conference back in 2002.
Southeastern Louisiana's Sam Bowie competed in the 1999 event prior
to entering the league.
The eight
participants include Patrick Ewing Jr. of Georgetown, James Gist of
Maryland, Deron Washington of Virginia Tech, JR Giddens of New
Mexico State, Brian Randle of Illinois, Joey Dorsey of Memphis (If
the Tigers do not make the Final Four) and Sonny Weems of
Arkansas.
