Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi will look to make it three-straight wins
when the Islanders host UT-Arlington at 1 p.m. in the
American Bank Center.
The
Islanders (5-12, 2-2) are coming off an 82-69 win over Texas State,
marking the first time this season they have won back-to-back
games.
The
Mavericks will come to Corpus Christi with a 13-4 record and
winners of their last three games. UTA opened Southland Conference play
with back-to-back losses to Northwestern State and Central
Arkansas, but bounced back to win three-straight SLC contests,
including a 56-50 win over UTSA on Wednesday.
The two
teams have met each other just two other times, both last season,
with the Islanders winning both on the road and in Corpus
Christi.
The
Mavericks are led by center Jermaine Griffin's 12.9 points per
game, while point guard Ro'ger Guignard is right behind him with
12.5 points an outing.
Griffin is second in the league with a 64.7 field goal percentage,
leading a team that shoots 49.5 percent, which is tops in the
Southland Conference.
Not
only are they able to hit from the outside, they hold their
opponents to 37.6 percent shooting, including 28.6 from behind the
three-point line. UTA is
currently tied for the league lead with Stephen F. Austin and Sam
Houston State - all with 3-2 records.
The
Islanders hit a season-high 56.3 percent from the field Thursday
night, marking the first time they have shot over 50 percent in a
game. Freshman Justin
Reynolds led the way with 17 points, while pulling down a game-high
nine rebounds. Reynolds
needs just two rebounds to become TAMUCC's all-time freshman
offensive rebounder. He is
also on pace to break Corey Lamkin's mark for rebounds by a
freshman with 134. Lamkin
set the mark back in the 2001-02 season with 175.
