The Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team will host the Islander
Holiday Inn-Emerald Beach Invitational Friday and Saturday
featuring Northern Illinois,
San Diego State and Texas-Pan American.
Northern Illinois
and Texas-Pan American will kick off the event at 4 p.m. in Moody
Fieldhouse followed by the San Diego State, Texas A&M-Corpus
Christi match at 6:30 p.m.
The Islanders will
enter the event with a 2-4 mark after winning two matches at the
Texas A&M Tournament earlier this year. Christie Feliz leads the team with
3.31 kills per game, and was named to the All-Tournament team at
Rice last week.
A&M-Corpus
Christi will open Saturday's play with a match against Northern
Illinois at 10 a.m. followed by a 12:30 match between San Diego
State and Texas-Pan American. SDSU and NIU will face off at 4 p.m.
and the Islanders will conclude the tournament with a 6:30 p.m.
match against Texas-Pan American.
San Diego State
will come to Corpus Christi with a 4-2 record, with wins coming
against UC Santa Barbara as well as Fairfield to start the season
as well as defeating Ball State and Siena at the Hofstra
Tournament.
Northern Illinois
enters the tournament with a 3-5 mark with wins over Western
Illinois, Tennessee Tech and Butler. Texas-Pan American brings a 2-7 record
with wins over Texas Southern and Louisiana-Lafayette.
The tournament
will be the only home matches in the month of September for the
Islanders and they will not return home until Oct. 6 when they open
Southland Conference play on Oct. 6 when they host UTSA at 5 p.m.
in the Field House.
