Texas A&M
University-Corpus Christi men's basketball coach Perry Clark
announced the 2007-08 schedule which features 29 games, 14 of which
will be played at home in the American Bank Center. Five of the possible Islanders'
opponents played in either the NCAA Tournament or the Post Season
NIT last year.
The Clark era will
begin on Sat., Nov. 10 when A&M-Corpus Christi hosts
Texas Southern at 7 p.m.
After the season-opener, the Islanders will head to College Station
for the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Preseason Tip-Off on Nov.
13-14. There, they will
take on Texas El Paso at 5 p.m. on the 13th and will
play either Oral Roberts or Texas A&M the following night.
"I am really
pleased with our schedule this year," Clark said. "We are really young and our guys are
going to face some stiff competition right out of the gate which
will get us ready for conference play."
After their trip
to the NIT Season Tip-Off, the Islanders will head to Chicago, Ill.
to face DePaul on Wed., Nov. 28 before returning home briefly to
host Troy at 3 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 1.
The Islanders will
make their annual trek to Stillwater, Okla. to face Oklahoma State
on Wed. Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. followed by the second half of the
home-and-home series with Troy on Sat. Dec. 15 in Troy, Ala.
A&M-Corpus
Christi will return home for three games, including a matchup with
Detroit on Mon., Dec. 17 followed by the Flint Hills Resources
Islander Invitational. The
Islanders will open the tournament against Georgia Southern on
Fri., Dec. 28 and will face either Rhode Island or Eastern
Michigan.
The final two
non-conference games will come on Jan. 2 and 9th when
they play Auburn and Kent State on the road.
The Islanders will
begin the defense of their Southland Conference championship on
Sat., Jan. 12 against McNeese State in Lake Charles, La. After their trip to Louisiana,
they will return home to play five of their next six games in the
American Bank Center starting with Northwestern State and Central
Arkansas on Jan. 17 and 19.
They will then head to San Marcos on Thurs., Jan. 24 to take on
Texas State before they return home for three-straight games
against UT-Arlington, UTSA and Stephen F. Austin.
On Sat., Feb. 9,
the Islanders will travel to Huntsville to take on the SLC
Preseason favorites Sam Houston State. A&M-Corpus Christi, picked to
finish second in the West Division, split with the Bearkats last
year.
TAMUCC will return
to Louisiana on Feb. 14 and 16 to take on Nicholls State and
Southeastern La. before returning home briefly to host Texas State
on Thurs., Feb. 21.
Two of the final
five home contests will be in the American Bank Center against
Lamar and Sam Houston State in the final regular season matchup of
the year on Sat. March. 8.
The Southland
Conference Tournament will be held on March 13-16 at the Merrell
Center in Katy, Texas with top eight seeds in the league with the
winner earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
