A trio of home
cross country meets including the 2007 Southland Conference
Championship highlights the schedule for Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi coach Shawn Flanagan and his runners.
"With thee home
meets, it will give us the opportunity to compete against some good
competition without traveling," said Flanagan. "We really have some
good teams coming for our home meets and we will be heading to two
high quality meets on the road."
"I am most excited
about the opportunity to host the Southland Conference
Championship. Both of our teams have been progressing each season
and our ready for the challenges the schedule brings."
The Islanders open
the 2007 schedule at home in two weeks with a relay race at
West Guth Park against multiple schools including Southland
Conference rivals UTSA, UT Arlington and Texas State on Friday,
Aug. 31. After heading to Houston for the Rice Invite, Flanagan's
men and women return home to West Guth Park for the Islander Splash
on Friday, Sept. 28. The meet will serve as a preview of the
Southland Conference Championship a month later. The following day
the Islander Splash for junior and senior high school athletes will
be held.
After a trip to
Arkansas for the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville,
A&M-Corpus Christi will host the school's first Southland
Conference Championship in any sport on Saturday, Oct. 27 at West
Guth Park. The teams will compete the following two weekends later
at the NCAA South Central Region Meet in Fayetteville, Ark.
