Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball coach Perry Clark has
announced the hiring of Brian Merritt to serve as assistant coach.
Merritt, a native of St. Mary's County,
Md., comes from Hampton University where he worked with guards as
well as coordinated all recruiting efforts.
Prior to his time
at Hampton, he spent three years at the University of Louisville
where he served as the Director of Basketball Operations and
assisted in opponent scouting under head coach Rick Pitino.
Merritt also broke down film and assisted in on-campus recruiting.
"Although he is a young coach, he has a wealth of experience having
been at Louisville for three years for three years under Rick
Pitino. He knows the ins and outs of recruiting and I think he is
an asset to the program," Clark said.
Merritt played two
seasons in college, one at Butler (Pa.) Community College and one
at Towson (Md.) University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science
degree in sports management in 2003.
"I have been
blessed to work under people like coach Nickelberry and coach
Pitino. Now to have the
opportunity to work under coach Clark which is a dream come true,"
Merritt said. I am big on
winning and not having been in post season last year after being in
the final four with Louisville, I am anxious to get back to the
NCAA Tournament."
