Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball player Chris Daniels has
removed his name from the NBA Draft to be held June 27.
Daniels had
originally declared for the draft, but did not hire an agent.
The
San Antonio native was named the 2007 Southland Conference Player
of the Year after averaging 15.3 points and 6.7 rebounds a
game. He led the Islanders
to a first-ever SLC regular season and tournament championship and
was named the Southland Conference Tournament Most Valuable
Player. "At this time I
feel it is best for me to return for my final year to defend our
conference championship," Daniels said. He was recently named to the
Associated Press All-American Honorable Mention team.
In the Islanders'
first-ever NCAA postseason game, he led the team with 20 points and
nine rebounds against Wisconsin in the first round of the NCAA
Tournament.
Daniels will be
one of two seniors on next year's squad and will lead a team that
had one of the best recruiting classes in school history. He will join Manuel Johnson as
well as six other returning players.
