NATCHITOCHES, La. Northwestern State hit three home
runs, including a three-run shot by Amanda Jameson to give the
Demons a 12-8 win in the third and final game of the series.
The Islanders
(4-17, 1-5) scored a run in the top of the first on an Andrea
Gonzalez single up the middle to score Erica Armenta, who led off
the inning with a walk.
Gonzalez's grounder was part of the Islanders' eight-hit attack,
two of which were doubles.
The Demons took
the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the first thanks
to a solo homer by Margaret Patterson and an RBI single by Kelly
Corliss. They would tack on
six more in the bottom of the second on three hits, including the
three-run blast by Jameson.
A&M-Corpus
Christi cut the lead to four (8-4) when Andrea Simancas led off the top
of the third with a single to center before Margo Hurdt was hit by
a pitch. Stephanie Estrada
later reached on an error to load the bases. Brenda Guerrero flied out to right
field, driving in Simancas before Lauren Peters hit a two-run
single up the middle.
The Islanders
scored two more runs in the fourth on a double by Simancas, scoring
Armenta, who reached on an error. Simancas finished the day with two
hits along with Lauren Peters.
Northwestern State
picked up two more runs in the fourth and the sixth to put the
Islanders away.
The Islanders will
return home for a five-game home stand against Prairie View A&M
on Wednesday and a three-game series with Stephen F. Austin on
Saturday and Sunday.
