A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI TO RECEIVE CLASSIC DOLLARS

The Corpus Christi Hooks and Whataburger, Inc., will present checks from income generated at March's Inaugural Whataburger College Classic to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi before Thursday's 7:05 p.m. game vs. the Frisco RoughRiders.

Nearly 9,000 fans attended the four-day event, which featured Arizona State, Texas Christian, Rice and the Islanders.

"Hosting the Classic enables us to help our local University," Hooks President J.J. Gottsch said. "Bringing in top-flight competition strengthens TAMU-CC's schedule, promotes Islander Baseball nationally and increases the bottom line in academics and athletics."

Gottsch will present a check to the school's Tarpon Foundation, which serves as the main fundraising arm for athletics. The foundation supports scholarships for male and female student-athletes and bolsters the general operating budget for Islander Athletics. Athletics Director Brian Teter will accept on behalf of the Tarpon Foundation.

"Whataburger is honored to be a partner of the Hooks and the University on such an impactful event," said Whataburger Vice President Todd Coerver. "The Whataburger College Classic not only brings top notch competition and entertainment to our hometown, it also assists Texas A&M-CC in its desire to offer the highest quality education while building an elite baseball program that will only add to the quality of life in Corpus Christi."

Whataburger will present its check to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi General Scholarship Fund, which supports honors scholars from every college at the Island University. On hand to represent the University will be President Dr. Flavius Killebrew.

"The University appreciates the generosity of the Corpus Christi Hooks and Whataburger," Killebrew said. "We are pleased and grateful for their contributions to higher education. We enjoy our relationship with each and wish the Hooks well as they prepare for the playoffs."
