HOUSTON -
In the final meet of the regular season, the Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi men's 4x400-meter relay of Alex Vasquez,
Placido Madera, Hilario Flores and Travis White broke the school
record with a time of 3:13.55 to finish third at the Houston
Invitational.
Other highlights for the Islanders, include a second-place finish
by Meghan Lemke in the women's 1,500-meter run with a time of
4:43.94. Islander athletes finished third in four other events.
Hickel Woolery bettered his regional qualifying throw in the discus
with a toss of 54.45 meters. On the track, Mark Morales placed
third in the 800 (1:54.71) and Sam Sanchez was third in the 1,500
(4:06.86). The women's mile relay also placed third with a time of
3:50.48. Mellaneisha Gentry was fifth in the triple jump with a
leap of 37'11-1/2.
Three Islanders will have their seasons continue later this month
at the NCAA Regional in Austin. Shadrack Songok has qualified in
the 1,500 and 5,000-meter runs, while Woolery will compete in the
discus. On the women's side, Samantha Spaulding will compete in the
400-meter hurdles.
