HOUSTON -- Sophomore
Erika Iriarte advanced
to Sunday's championship match in the White singles flight with a
pair of wins on the second day of the Houston Fall Draw
highlighting the action for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
women's tennis team.
Iriarte began her day by outlasting Houston's Vicky Simpson in
three sets. The two split the opening two sets by identical 7-6
scores before Iriarte won 10-7 in the decisive third set. The
Islander sophomore then dropped another Cougar sweeping Sonja
Nikolic (6-0, 6-1) to reach the finals. She is slated to face
Southeastern Louisiana's Jana Simurkova in Sunday's in final.
In double's action,
Amanda Brahim and
Nina Ciric's run to the
doubles crown ended in the semifinals. After going 3-0 on Friday,
Brahim and Ciric fell in the semis to Nina Knavs and Breda Kovac of
Southeastern Louisiana, 8-5.
