The 2006 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball schedule will see
the Islanders play 43 games before the Big South Conference
Tournament, including a multitude of road games. The Islanders will
play just six home games with the first home date not coming until
April 19.
The Islanders will open the season with a 36-game road trip that
includes four tournaments and the 12-game Big South Conference
Schedule in Conway, S.C.
A&M-Corpus Christi will start the season on Feb. 10 at the
Demarini/University of Houston Tournament where it will take on
Kansas in the opening game. The Islanders will also take on Oregon
and Houston in the event.
They will head back to Houston on Feb. 17 for a second tournament
hosted by the Cougars where the Islanders will face Samford,
Northwestern State and Houston.
The Islanders will head to Lake Charles, La. for a two-day
tournament hosted by McNeese State, followed by a tournament hosted
by the University of Texas on March 3-5. There, the Islanders will
face Houston for the fourth time, Texas and Mississippi.
Before starting conference play, the Islanders will head to San
Antonio on March 9 to fact Texas-San Antonio for a double header.
On March 13, the Islanders will make their yearly trip to South
Carolina over spring break to play 12 Big South Conference games
over six days.
"Our non-conference schedule will do a good job in getting us
ready for conference play," head coach Dawn Wuthrich said. "We will
be playing high-level teams that will give some of our younger
players some experience."
Wuthrich will have 10 newcomers to the program, seven of which
will be playing their first season of collegiate softball.
After conference play, the Islanders will host Texas-San Antonio
for a double header on April 19, followed by a twin bill against
Texas State on April 20. They will conclude their home schedule on
April 27 when they host Texas-Arlington in a double header.
A&M-Corpus Christi will head to Radford, Va. for the Big South
Conference Tournament where they will be looking to make its
fourth-straight trip to the NCAA Regionals.
