FIRST EVER PRESIDENTIAL AWARD OF THE SILVER WAVE PRESENTED TO THE ISLANDER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi President Flavius C. Killebrew presented the first ever Silver Wave Award to the Women's basketball team on Friday at Kings Crossing Country Club Room. The award was presented to the women's basketball organization for its accomplishments in 2005 which brought national honor and distinction to the University.

President Killebrew began the Silver Wave Award program as a way of acknowledging the contribution of outstanding individuals or groups that are models of excellence and encouragement to their fellow students and or colleagues.

?The drive and commitment of the team headed by Coach Jodi Kest is a testament to what can be accomplished when people work together,? said Killebrew. ?This group of young women embodies the spirit of A&M-Corpus Christi and has set the bar high for recipients to follow.?

The women's team was chosen because of its successful best-ever 23-7 season, which made it eligible for the Women's National Invitational Tournament. Coach Jodi Kest's team beat the Fresno State Bulldogs 56-53 in the first round before bowing out in the second round.
