SAN ANTONIO - For the third consecutive game,
sophomore Jennifer Golden hit a home run to lead the Islanders to
another victory to stay unbeaten on the year. Golden was 2-3 at the
plate and drove in both runs as the Islanders took a 2-1 win over
Centenary in their second game of the UTSA Fastpitch College
Classic.
The Islanders scored first in the bottom of the first inning when
Golden singled through the left side to drive home Erica Armenta,
who reached on a walk. A&M-Corpus Christi would strike again in
the bottom of the third when Golden hit a one-out homer over the
left field fence.
The score would remain 2-0 in favor of the Islanders until
freshman Lauren Flowers broke up Sarah Pauly?s scoreless inning
streak at 40.1 innings with a solo shot over the center field wall
for the Ladies only run of the game. Pauly did strike out 15
batters and allowed just one other hit in the game in picking up
her seventh win of the year.
The Islanders are now 8-0 on the year and will take on North Texas
and host Texas-San Antonio for their final two games of the
tournament.
