The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team will cap its
month of fall practice this Thursday, Friday and Saturday with the
Blue-White Mini World Series. The first two games of the series
will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Islander Field, with Saturday?s finale
taking placing at Whataburger Field at 3 p.m. following the Skills
Assessment Camp. The scrimmages are open to the public.
"The scrimmages will be an excellent way to wrap up what has been a
productive fall practice," said Islander baseball coach Hector
Salinas. "I've been very pleased with how we have looked in
practice. We have 10-12 pitchers with experience, which is more
than we have had in the past that have been solid. Offensively, it
looks like we should be able to hit for average and power.
"We lost some key players - Trey Hearne, Chuck Carter and Jaime
Landin - from last season, but we've had some players look like
they will be able to fill in. I was a little worried with our
defense in the infield but the players have done a really good
job."
The Islanders will be looking to build upon last season?s 31-21-1
record when they open the 2006 season in February. The campaign
will be highlighted by the inaugural Whataburger College Classic
March 10-12 hosted by the Corpus Christi Hooks and Islanders. Also
competing will be Rice, TCU, and Arizona State.
