CHULA VISTA, Calif. -
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi shot a three-round total of 932 to
give them a fifth place finish at the Taylormade/Adidas Lady Aztec
Invitational, headlined by Mary Carmen Betancourt?s third
consecutive top-five performance with a second place finish.
Betancourt shot a 72 in the final round, propelling seven spots
after she sat in a tie for ninth place after the first two rounds.
She combined for a three-round total of 222 to tie with Jennifer
Yoo of Cal State Northridge.
The Islanders shot a 314 in the first round followed by a
round-best 306 in the second and finished up the tournament with a
312 giving them their third consecutive top-five finish.
Jacklynn Miller shot a 75 in the final round for a total of 229 to
finish in a tie for 13th, while Whitney Stromgen had a three-round
total of 236 to finish in a tie for 29th. Ashley Olynick and Brooke
Kresta rounded out the Islander lineup by finishing in a tie for
54th and 60th respectively.
Host San Diego State won the 13-team field with a combined total
of 906, 10 strokes ahead of Sacramento State. Montana shot a 919 to
finish third, while Northern Arizona was fourth with a score of
924. Margaux Sheehan of Sacramento State won the event with a
three-round total of 217, fueled by a 68 in the first round.
