TAMUCC WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM RANKED EIGHTH IN REGION

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women?s cross country team, which has won that last two NCAA Division I Independent Championships, has been ranked eighth in the 2004 South Central preseason cross country poll.

The Islanders, who are returning eight runners from a year ago, as well as five newcomers, will have five meets before the NCAA Division I Regional Championships on Nov. 14 to showcase their talents. The season will start Friday in Edinburg when they compete in the Texas-Pan American Relay.

Arkansas has been tabbed as the No. 1 team in the region to start the season with Baylor ranked second.
