CORPUS CHRISTI - In just her first season at Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi, Sophomore Carlota Santos has already made
her mark on the women?s tennis team by going a perfect 12-0 for the
season and 4-0 against independent schools to earn Independent
Player of the Year Honors.
Santos is the only Islander player to ever finish the season
undefeated and currently holds the school?s longest winning streak
at 12.
Santos was one of two players on the first team, with Filipa
Figueiredo receiving first team honors at the No. 2 seed. The
Islanders swept the first team list in doubles, with Figueiredo and
Santos at the No. 1 seed ,Amanda Brahim and Lana Burton at the No.
2 position. Kelsey Gist and Lauren Schmidt received first-team
honors at the No. 3 seed.
Brahim, Schmidt and Gist each received second team honors, while
Brahim and Burton were named to the All-Freshman team.
The Islanders finished with a 9-6 record and winners of six of
their final seven matches, including winning their final three
matches of the season to win the Independent championships.
Head coach Ken de Koning was a unanimous choice for Coach of the
Year in his sixth season with the program.
