Texas A&M-Corpus Christi used six players that scored in
double figures as the Islanders cruised by Texas College, 104-44 in
their final tuneup before their regular season opener Saturday
against Texas A&M-International.
Nick Jackson had a career-night, hitting seven of seven shots from
the field, pouring in 16 points with five rebounds and three
blocks. Corey Lamkin and Travis Bailey added 16 points each, while
Aaron White had 13 and Chris Daniels and Corey Stokes added 10.
The Islanders shot an impressive 56 percent from the field and hit
93 percent from the free throw line including a perfect 10 for 10
in the second half.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi led from the onset on a jumper by
Jackson before Texas College?s Jamar Adams made a layup with 19:27
to play in the first half to tie the game at two, the only tie they
would see the entire night.
With 12:16 to play in the first half, Thomas Bailey connected on a
15-foot jumper to give the Islanders a 19-13 run, which started a
25-3 Islander run. The Steers scored just three points in over five
minutes and found themselves in a 42-16 hole with 3:56 to play in
the opening frame.
Texas College scored just two points in the remaining 6:43 to play
in the game, giving the Islanders a 50-18 halftime lead.
The Islanders started the second half much like the first, as they
went on a 23-5 run to open the first seven and a half minutes of
the period to take a 75-23 lead with 12:23 to play.
While the Islander offense scored at will, Texas College hit just
36 percent from the field and had just one player register in
double figures with Antrone Moore?s 13-point output. TAMUCC was
able to hit from long range, hitting four of nine three pointers
led by two from Travis Bailey.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was also generous, handing out 27
assists led by Seth Engelken, who finished the night with seven and
had just one turnover.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will remain at home Saturday when
they host the Dustdevils of Texas A&M-International at 7 p.m.
The Islanders are a perfect 5-0 in season openers and defeated
TAMUI, 94-75 on Circle K Court last season.
