CORPUS CHRISTI - The No. 13 ranked Texas Longhorns defeated the
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders, 7-0 in men?s tennis at the
Corpus Christi Athletic Club.
The Longhorns took an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles
play 2-1. Texas? Pete Stroer and Jose Zarhi won the third and
deciding doubles match over Jeremy Blandin and Luis Moris, 9-8.
In the other two doubles matches, Ryan Haymond and Antonio Ruiz
defeated the TAMU-CC?s Oscar Roman and Goncalo Figueiredo, 8-6. The
No. three seeded Joe Morris and Hubert Chodkiewicz of Texas
defeated Javier Bacaicoa and David Plasencia, 8-2.
In Singles play, No. 1 seeded Antonio Ruiz of Texas defeated No. 1
Jeremy Blandin, 6-4, 6-2 to take a 2-0 team lead.
The Longhorns went on to win the rest of the matches to sweep the
Islanders in A&M-Corpus Christi?s first match of the spring
season. The Islanders? No. 2 seed Figueiredo and No. 5 seed Oscar
Roman were the only two to take their matches to three sets.
