HATTIESBURG, MISS. --- Jimmy Hamon (Pasadena,
Tex.) and Jaime Landin (Brownsville, Tex.) represented Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi on the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District VI
Second Team, it was announced Thursday. District VI schools include
institutions from the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi,
New Mexico, Oklahoma, as well as Texas.
Hamon, who holds down a 3.72 gpa in kinesiology, polished off a
solid two-year career by going the distance six times and notching
a 9-2 with a 4.06 ERA. The senior fanned a school-record 107
batters in 99.2 innings of work. His nine victories on the season
is currently tied for 10th in the country in the Division I ranks.
Hamon pitched two complete game shutouts, blanking Incarnate Word
12-0 on March 25 and then firing a three-hitter against Centenary
on April 26. However, he will be remembered as the hurler who
stifled defending champ and top ranked Texas. On February 5, he
allowed only two hits, while striking out eight batters in six
innings against the Longhorns in the 5-0 upset victory.
Landin, who split time between second at short, built upon a solid
2002 campaign and posted a brilliant .421 average with 9 doubles, 9
triples, 2 homers, and 41 RBI as the Islanders' leadoff hitter. He
also swiped 8 of 10 stolen base attempts. The sophomore currently
is tied for 20th in the country in batting average and is third in
triples per game. Landin established single season school marks in
batting average, runs scored (62), hits (85), and triples. He
maintains a 3.60 gpa in Business.
