CORPUS CHRISTI, TEX. --- The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
women's tennis program announced its first signees of the year with
the inkings of Amanda Brahim (Paramaribo, Suriname/Arthur
Haogendoorn Atheneum HS) Lana Burton (Oakville, Ontario/Trafalgar
HS) to national letters of intent, Wednesday.
Brahim, a three-year recipient of the Award for Outstanding
Athletic and Academic Performer, has represented her native land in
international competitions in Guyana, Barbados, Trinidad, Curacao,
Aruba and Holland. She also placed second nationally in the 2000
Suriname Showjumping Championships.
"Amanda is a roadrunner," said Islander head coach Ken De Koning.
"She is fit and tries like crazy. Amanda has a lot of potential to
be a solid collegiate tennis player. I expect her to battle for a
spot in the middle of the lineup."
Burton was a finalist at the Toronto Megacity Championships.
Currently, she ranks among the top 30 singles players in Ontario.
She also lettered two years in volleyball at Trafalgar High
School.
"Lana bring a big game to our program," said De Koning. "She is
tough both physically and mentally. I look for her to fight for a
spot at the top of the lineup."
