NACOGDOCHES, TEX. --- Sarah Pauly (Phoenix, Ariz.) allowed four
hits in a complete-game shutout as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
blanked Stephen F. Austin 2-0 in the first game of a doubleheader,
Saturday. In game two, the Ladyjacks plated four unearned runs as
the Islanders fell 4-1.
In the opener, A&M-CC, now 22-16, broke a scoreless tie with
two runs in the top of the fifth inning. After Janelle Sanders
(Flower Mound, Tex.) reached base on a SFA error, sophomore Christy
Cortez (Portland, Tex.) tripled to give the Islanders a 1-0 lead.
Kelly Amos (Folsom, Calif.) singled to plate Cortez and put
A&M-CC ahead 2-0.
Pauly, 14-10 on the season, shut down the Ladyjacks striking out
eight on the day. The sophomore ace scattered four hits in seven
innings of work and K?d at least one batter in every inning.
In game two, the Ladyjacks struck first to take a 1-0 lead on an
Islander error in the first inning. A&M-CC tied the game in the
fifth when Sanders led off the inning with a homerun, her first of
the year, to knot the game at 1-1.
Miscues in the field burnt the Islanders once again in the bottom
of the fifth. SFA plated three unearned runs on two errors to push
its lead to 4-1.
Dani Damel (Langley, B.C.) dropped to 8-6 with the loss. The junior
gave up seven hits in six innings of work, but was felled by her
defense. All four of the Ladyjacks? runs were unearned.
The Islanders wrap up the three-game series against Stephen F.
Austin, Sunday. The finale begins at 1:00 p.m. kicks off at 12:00
p.m.
