SHREVEPORT, LA. --- Sarah Pauly (Phoenix, Ariz.) continued her
dominance over Centenary throwing her second consecutive no-hitter
of the season to lead Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to a 2-0 victory
in the season finale, Sunday afternoon.
Pauly, 18-13, became the first Islander in school history to toss a
seven inning perfect game. The sophomore ace fanned 11 batters on
the day raising her season strikeout record to 345.
The Islanders plated two runs in the third inning taking advantage
of two Centenary errors. Kelly Amos' (Folsom, Calif.) one-out
single started things for the Islanders. On the next play, the
Ladies misplayed Rachel Kitchens' (Orange, Calif.) sacrifice bunt
attempt committing two errors on the play allowing both runners to
round the bases.
In the bottom of the seventh and the Islanders' hurler staring at a
perfect game, Pauly struck out the side to notch her 15th game of
double digit strikeouts on the year. In four games against the
Ladies this season, Pauly has tallied a 4-0 mark with four
shutouts, 55 K's, two no-hitters, and two one-hitters in 33.0
innings of work. The victory sets a new Islaner record with
no-hitters in a single season.
With the win, A&M-CC grabbed the weekend series at Centenary
winning two of three games. On the year, the Islanders tallied a
5-1 mark against the Ladies.
A&M-CC finished the regular season at 26-21 and now waits for
its seeding at the Big South Conference Tournament taking place May
8-10, at Rock Hill, SC. The winner of the tournament receives the
conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
