SAN ANTONIO, TEX. --- Kelly Amos (Folsom, Calif.) and Megan
Saucedo
(San Antonio, Tex.) each tallied two hits as Texas A&M-Corpus
Christi
overcame an early deficit to polish off Southwest Missouri
State,
4-1, before the rain set in, Friday.
Down 1-0 in the top of the third, the Islanders knotted the game at
1-1 on a single to center field by Katie Evans (Tempe, Ariz.).
A&M-CC took the lead for good in the fourth inning. After
Saucedo opened the inning with a double to left field, Amos knocked
in her first run of the game on a single into right field.
Ahead 2-1, the Islanders plated two more runs in the top of the
sixth to finish the Bears off for good. Dani Damel (Langley, B.C.)
allowed one run on four hits over 4.1 innings to record her first
win of the year. Sarah Pauly (Phoenix, Ariz.) earned the save,
quieting a Southwest Missouri rally in the fifth inning, before
striking out the side in the bottom of the sixth.
The Bears' Shannon Buslepp picked up the loss after scattering
eight hits and four earned runs over 5.1 innings pitched.
Amos drove in two runs and scored once, while Saucedo, a San
Antonio native, scored twice on the afternoon. In the win,
A&M-CC registered 8 hits in the rain shortened game. With two
outs and the Islanders batting in the top of the seventh, rain
moved in ending the
game prematurely.
The rain set in canceling the Islanders second contest against
Wichita State. The game originally scheduled for 6:30 p.m., on
Friday, has been rescheduled for 12:30 p.m., Sunday.
The Islanders, 3-3 on the year, return to action Saturday for day
two of the UTSA Invitational. At 11 a.m., A&M-CC squares off
against host UT-San Antonio before matching up against 12th ranked
Texas at 1:30 p.m.
