MIAMI, FLORIDA --- Evita Rogers scored a game-high 24 points
connecting on 9 of 14 shots from the floor and propelled
Georgia
State past Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi 58-55 in
the
consolation game of the Fun&Sun Classic, Sunday afternoon.
Georgia State led by as many as seven points in the first
half (14-7), but the Islanders battled back with a 7-0 run to
knot
the tilt at 14-14. The Lady Panthers took a 26-24 lead into
intermission.
In the second frame, A&M-CC used an 11-2 run to take its
largest lead of the contest, 49-45, with 6:37 remaining in the
game.
With the Islanders still ahead, 52-49, with 2:26 left on the
clock,
the Lady Panthers finished the game with a 9-3 run.
Kristin Rogers (Sand Springs, Okla.) paced the Islanders'
offense with 13 points, while Terra Andrews (Missouri City,
Tex.)
added 10 points in the loss. Keisha Cornelius (Amarillo, Tex.)
and
Monica Pena (Corpus Christi, Tex.) each netted season-highs with
9
and 8 points, respectively.
Yvette Tisdale contributed 8 points and pulled down game-high
8 boards on the afternoon. The Lady Panthers improved to 5-5 on
the
year.
It doesn't get any easier for the Islanders, who are now 6-5
after their fourth straight loss. A&M-CC returns to action
against
15th ranked Texas, a third consecutive 2002 NCAA tournament
participant, Thursday, January 2nd, in Austin, Tex. Tip-off is
set
for 7:00 P.m.
