WACO, Texas – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's team ran to a 10th-place finish, while the women came in 14th on Friday during the 2013 South Central Regional Cross Country Meet in Waco, Texas.

"The men had a very solid race," head coach Shawn Flanagan said. "I was really pleased with how they ran. They finished in the top 10, so we finished in the top 25 percent of the entire region. The three freshmen were solid. We have almost everyone back next year because Jason and Justin are seniors but have another year of eligibility left. We are really excited about the future of this program."

As expected, Philipp Baar was the top runner on the men's team, posting a time of 31:09.5 to finish in 26th. A little more than 10 seconds later in the challenging 10k race came senior Justin Adame, who was the second Islander across the finish line to place 32nd with a time of 31:21.0.

A fellow senior was next for A&M – Corpus Christi, as Jason Garcia also finished among the top 50 out of a 149-man field, coming in 46th in 31:56.5.

Two freshmen for the Islanders finished right beside each other. Edgar Martinez came in 72nd with a time of 32:34.4, while Cesar Gonzalez was one place behind just four seconds later.

Also running for the men were Daniel Guerrero, another freshman, and Justin Adame who finished with a time of 33:27.2 and 33:39.2, respectively.

Once again Arkansas and Texas occupied the top spots in the men's race. It was an extremely tight race with the Razorbacks finishing with a score of 34, while the Longhorns were just three points back at 37. The two teams that finished ahead of the Islanders at the Southland Conference meet, Lamar and Stephen F. Austin, took the third and fourth overall team spots. Rice rounded out the top five with a score of 167.

"We were the fourth conference school across the line, right behind SFA which was our goal to get," Flanagan said. "We had four girls run solid races today. Cecy really had a good race. I was really happy with Cecy going out like that. Vanessa had her best race of the year, so I think it's something we can build on."

In her final race with the Islanders, Cecilia Jones led the women's team one more time. She finished in the top 50 and ran a personal best in the 6k, coming in 48th with a time of 22:05.4. She was the sixth overall runner out of the Southland.

After being the sixth runner on the team across the line during the conference meet, Vanessa Galindo was the second one for the Islanders on Friday, finishing in 75th with a time of 22:46.2.

Brandie Garcia (22:54.9), Regina Salinas (23:03.5) and Ashley Mills (24:08.0) rounded out the scoring for A&M – Corpus Christi. Jasmine Boutte was the final runner across the line for the Islanders with a time of 24:10.3.
