CORPUS CHRISTI – Members of the Islanders men's and women's cross country teams will head to San Antonio on Saturday to compete in the 8th annual Incarnate Word Invitational.
Both teams are coming off impressive performances, as each placed first in the Islanders Splash. However, A&M – Corpus Christi will not have a full team competing in either race, as the top Islanders runners will continue to get ready for Pre-Nationals the following weekend.
"It's a chance to compete for those who have been injured or sick or just not quite where we'd like them to be, and to show their stuff as we get down to the really serious part of our schedule," head coach Shawn Flanagan said. "It will give them valuable experience, as we will count on some of these individuals to help us in both the Southland Conference and Regional meets."
The meet will get underway with the men's 8k race at 8 a.m. and will be followed by the women's 6k race at 8:45 a.m. The majority of the universities competing hail from South Texas with all of the teams scheduled to run listed as follows: Abilene Christian, Huston-Tillotson, Lubbock Christian, Our Lady of the Lake, Schreiner, Sul Ross State, Texas State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Trinity, UT-Brownsville, UT-Pan American and UT-Permian Basin.
