Running With Cecy: Vol. 3, Issue 1

Hey Islander Fans,

Oh man, oh man it's the awesome time of year again where our cross country season starts and I get to give you all the inside scoop on what goes on with our women's team! This year is my senior year to compete as an Islander! It is bittersweet and I cannot believe how fast these four years have gone by! I have made so many great friends who are like sisters to me. A lot of exciting things are happening my senior year, and I could not be more overjoyed to share it with you all!

First off, we FINALLY got a track stadium! Thank you to Dr. Dugan and his family for allowing that to happen! Words can't express how much gratitude all of us have for you all. Secondly, my little sister Daniela Gonzalez who plays on the women's soccer team has joined me as an Islander. I am so excited to watch her grow and if you ever go to a soccer match make sure you cheer for #28 and the rest of the squad! Last but not least, this year is going to be an awesome year for our cross country team! We added some fresh new faces and they are doing good things at our early practices. I am excited for the returners like Vanessa Galindo, Jasmine Boutte, Regina Salinas, Alexandria Rossi, Samantha Hardin and Kim Ward to also grow with endurance and speed as we hopefully win a Southland Conference Championship.

This year I am trying to help my team with as much and as little as I can. I believe in them and I want to drive them as much as I can, but I have faith that they are going to put in the effort to try and make history and qualify for NATIONALS! I do have high hopes and expectations for myself but only God can allow whether that will happen or not. All I know is that I will do what I can control.

Our first meet was last Friday in Edinburg, Texas where the Islanders swept the 1-4th places in both the men's and women's races. Our team looks strong, and we are ready to step out of our comfort zone and run hard at our next meet, which is at Rice on Friday, Sept. 13! I can't express how excited I am for the Islanders this year, and I hope you all feel my excitement through this first blog of the season! Keep following my awesome teammate Jason Garcia with his blog "Putting in the Miles" to hear the men's inside scoop and mine to hear the women's inside scoop! I hope you all have a fantastic week and remember "Keep your Islander pride, and don't forget to stride!"

Yours truly,

Cecy Jones

GO ISLANDERS!!
