CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi cross country program wrapped their 13th annual cross country camp on Sunday with over 100 campers. The camp was a successful four-day event that gave campers the opportunity to run on the same courses that the Islanders student-athletes train on to prepare for the season.

"Overall camp was great," Head Coach Shawn Flanagan said. "We had an outstanding group of campers. "Myself and the counselors enjoyed having them and based on the critiques, they learned a lot and had a great time."

Flanagan, Hickel Woolery, Cody Knight and counselors Steve McBride and student-athletes from the Islanders cross country team all taught campers how to get in excellent shape while enjoying the fun and camaraderie of training. The camp included both day campers and overnight campers who stayed in apartment dorms on campus.

Campers also worked out several times a day. On Friday, the campers ran the course at West Guth Park, the home of the Islanders Splash, to experience up hill and down-hill running form. The following two days, the campers ran a 1k relay race at Lamar Park and enjoyed a long run at Bob Hall Pier on Padre Island. Along with running, the campers took part in awesome abs and arm workouts, aerobic games on campus and aqua jogging workouts in the recreational outdoor pool.

Throughout camp, directors and counselors presented lectures on the latest in running from training techniques, theories, nutrition, hydration, running footwear and training philosophies. Campers also had the opportunity to learn from Coach Woolery as he analyzed each of their running form on video.

During the evening, campers put together a talent show while all the counselors and staff served as judges. Campers also took part in a scavenger hunt. At the end of the camp, certificates were given out and goals were established for the upcoming seasons.
