Top Performance #6 - Patrick Kimeli qualifies for NCAA Championship
Islanders cross country runner Patrick Kimeli had a remarkable 2010 season. It included many victorious moments and outstanding performances, but it was his performance at NCAA South Central Regional on Nov. 11 that qualified him to run in the NCAA Championships.
Kimeli started out the race strong running with the lead runners, but soon fell to the middle of the pack. His training and techniques are what helped him get in a late kick, returning him back into the top 10, with a finish of seventh. With a time of 30:27.8, he was the third individual in the race to qualify for the championships.
Patrick represented Texas A&M- Corpus Christi at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., where he placed in the top half of the NCAA Championships field with a time of 31.13.2.
Kimeli was also the Southland Champion in cross country, becoming the third runner in school history to take home an individual title. He topped the field at the Championship on Oct. 28 with a time of 24:47. He was named Southland Male Athlete of the Year for his efforts.
