Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Volleyball added a new faceto the coaching staff in 2012, with former Villanova All-AmericanKim Maroon joining the Islanders as an assistant coach whileenrolled in a graduate degree program.
Maroon had a stellar career in the Big East, garnering ThirdTeam All-America honors following her senior season. During thecampaign, the libero set a new NCAA record with a 6.87 digs per setaverage and had a new Big East record of 749 total in 2011.
She was named the Libero of the Year for the conference afterboth her junior and senior seasons, and was a First Team All-BigEast selection twice, along with a second team honoree followingher sophomore season. She led the conference in total digs herfinal three seasons with the Wildcats.
In addition to being one of the elite liberos in the nationduring her collegiate career, Maroon is no stranger to coaching,having volunteered her time coaching the Philadelphia VolleyballAcademy's PVA 18 Blue team the last three years. In addition to hertime with the PVA program, Maroon also helped out by working campsand clinics during her Wildcats career.
During her junior year, Maroon actually played on her new homecourt as a member of the Villanova team that took part in theIslanders Classic tournament hosted in the Dugan Wellness Center.Against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, she recorded amatch-high 15 digs and was named to the all-tournament team at itsconclusion.
She focuses on working with liberos, while also helping with theserve receive area of the Islanders team.
Maroon graduated from Villanova in 2012 with a communicationsdegree, and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in business atTexas A&M – Corpus Christi.
